Yes, the ingredients in this Saltine Toffee recipe are rich, but ’tis the season for a little indulging, right? Plus, if I’m going to indulge in a treat, it better be a good one, and this recipe is guaranteed to leave your tastebuds happy. This Saltine Cracker Toffee is sometimes referred to as “Christmas Crack,” partially because you crack it into pieces but also because it’s a bit addictive. My only warning is that in my house full of kids, this very popular treat will disappear in the blink of an eye, so make sure you grab a piece before it’s gone!

What is In Saltine Toffee?
You know the recipe is a real winner when you can whip up something insanely delicious with only six ingredients! Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients
Saltine Crackers – These basic crackers form the base of the toffee and add crunch and a delicious salty flavor to the finished bark.
Butter – You can use salted or unsalted butter. I prefer my Toffee Bark a little bit on the saltier side, so I normally use salted butter. Cutting it into pieces ahead of time helps it melt evenly and quickly.
Sugar – Plain, granulated white sugar is all you need for this recipe.
Chocolate Chips – Because you’re already adding sugar to this recipe, choose semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Pecans – These add a delicious crunch and flavor to the finished toffee. Because you need chopped pecans, you can buy them whole and chop them yourself, or you can purchase chopped pecan pieces.
Toffee Bars – Look for brands like Heath Bars or Skor Bars, which are chocolate-covered toffee bars.
How to Make Saltine Toffee
First, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, line a large-rimmed baking sheet with foil. Arrange a single layer of saltine crackers to cover the baking sheet.
Combine the butter and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a rolling boil and boil for 1 to 2 minutes or until the mixture is thick and glossy. Don’t stir while it boils.
Do not scrap down the sides of the pot, as you will bring in sugar crystals from the sides of the pot and make your toffee grainy.
Immediately pour the sugar mixture over the layer of saltines, spreading it evenly to cover the crackers completely.
How long to bake saltine toffee? Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until bubbly all over. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let it rest for 3 minutes to let the chocolate chips soften.
Sprinkle with the chopped pecans and chopped toffee bar pieces. Refrigerate for at least one hour, then break the cracker toffee into pieces.
You can eat it right away (and let’s be honest, you’ll probably want to!), or you can store the saltine toffee in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Because Saltines Toffee is usually such a crowd-pleaser, I love to bag up portions as gifts for friends and neighbors. Everyone loves this stuff! It’s an easy and delicious treat to gift for holidays like Christmas.
Recipe Pro Tips!
Can you freeze Saltine Toffee?
Yes! Saltine Toffee can be easily frozen. First, lay it out on a cookie sheet and freeze; then you can place it in an air-tight container for future use. Saltine toffee freezes well for 3 months.
Can I add other Toppings?
Yes, you can change up the toppings as you like. Here are a few suggestions:
- Milk chocolate instead of semi-sweet or even white chocolate
- Other nuts like walnuts, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, sliced almonds, etc.
- Candy canes or peppermint crunch
- Sprinkles, jimmies, crushed candies
- M&M’s or Smarties
- Crushed pretzels
