Fruit Loop Squares

I came up with these Fruit Loop Squares awhile back for the kids’ picnic after Calaway park. They had tons of fun doing all the rides in the morning. I like to get out of there early. I have a routine set for the park. In when it opens at 10:00, around the park in two hours and then out. Of course, the food there for lunch is your normal hot dogs, burgers, and fries and it is so expensive.

I like to come back here and give the kids a slightly more nutritious lunch but still with fun fruit-flavored treats. They had a great day!! These are a great treat for the kids and full of colour!! Just like Toucan Sam! I used a generic brand of fruit loops but I would buy the original instead, much better.

Recipe

Ingredients

7 cups Fruit Loops cereal
320 gms. large marshmallows
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
9 – 18 gm. packages fruit twists, chopped into bite sizes pieces

Instructions

Lightly spray an 8 x 11 inch pan with cooking spray. In a large microwave-safe bowl add the butter and melt in the microwave. Add the marshmallows and microwave on high for 1 min. intervals checking and stirring as necessary until the marshmallows are completely melted.

Remove from the microwave and stir in vanilla. Quickly add the cereal and sprinkle with the fruit twists to distribute evenly. Stir to combine. Place the cereal mixture in the prepared pan. With a spatula that is lightly sprayed with cooking spray, spread the mixture into the pan. Let cool and cut into squares. Fun!!

Fruit loops remind me of being a kid. My sister and I were never allowed to eat sugary cereals except on special occasions, like birthdays. Her birthday is coming up soon so I think I’ll make these for her. Thanks for sharing the recipe and the gorgeous photos!
