Mango Habanero Margarita

Tara Noland
This refreshing mango habanero margarita is great for Cinco de Mayo and warm summer weather. The mango lends great fruity flavor with a touch of heat from the habanero and the chile rim. These will be a hit at your next fiesta!

  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila any, but white is recommended
  • 1 ounce orange liquor such as Grand Marnier or Cointreau
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen mango
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 of 1 habanero seeded
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 cup of ice if using frozen mango, start with ½ cup ice
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons chile powder or Tajin optional for rimming the glass
  • 1 lime halved; if using chile or Tajin to wet the rim of the glass
  • 1 lime wedge or slice optional for garnishing
  • 1 habanero sliced lengthwise; optional for garnishing

Instructions

  • Add tequila, orange liquor, mango, lime juice, sugar, half habanero (NOTE – use only ¼ if a seeded habanero if you want it less spicy) and the ice into the canister of a high speed blender and blend until smooth.
  • If you want a chile or Tajin rim, halve a lime, run the lime around the rim, and then dip the rim into the chili.
  • Transfer the contents of the blender into your prepared glass and optionally garnish with additional lime and/or habanero.
  • Note: The proportions mentioned are for one cup of approximately 12 ounces, serves 1.
  • Glassware to use: a traditional margarita cup or any other kinds, old fashion glass, wine glass or martini glass

Notes

TIPS:
-Frozen method has better consistency than made on the rocks, it is recommended that
this is a blended frozen margarita and not on the rocks.
-To rim it the glass put the chilli powder in a flat area (small dish or cutting
board) previously wet half of the rim of the glass with a piece of lime.
-If you´re starting with frozen margarita chunks (Trader Joe´s are great!), use
half the recommended amount of ice to begin since you may likely not need the
full amount of ice; increase as necessary.
