Ingredients

  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 14.5 oz cans chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 chicken stock cube
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh basil chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Sauté the Onion: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until it becomes translucent and soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Brown the Meat: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onion. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  • Add Spices: Sprinkle in the onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and dried thyme. Stir to coat the meat evenly with the spices.
  • Incorporate Tomato Ingredients: Stir in the tomato paste, ensuring it blends well with the meat. Add the chopped tomatoes and crumble the chicken stock cube into the mixture. Stir to combine.
  • Simmer the Sauce: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together. Cook to desired consistency.
  • Season: Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with salt as needed.
  • Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with fresh chopped basil before serving.
