Ham and Cheese Sliders

Ham and Cheese Sliders are small baked sandwiches made with soft dinner rolls layered with ham and cheese. Hawaiian-style rolls are especially popular because their subtle sweetness pairs beautifully with salty ham and savory cheese.

Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian sweet dinner rolls kept connected
  • 12 oz slices of deli ham
  • 12 oz sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened

Poppy Seed Topping

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 8x11-inch (or 9x13" if your rolls are larger) baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  • Without separating the rolls, slice the entire slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally. Place the bottom half in the prepared baking dish.
  • Spread the softened butter over the bottom rolls, then spread the Dijon mustard evenly on top.
  • Layer half of the cheese over the rolls, followed by the ham, then finish with the remaining mozzarella. This creates a perfectly melty layer of cheese on both sides of the ham. Place the top half of the rolls back on.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Brush the butter mixture generously over the tops and sides of the rolls, allowing it to seep into the seams.
  • Cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 2-3 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
