Ham and Cheese Sliders Ingredients

Recipe Ingredients
Hawaiian sweet rolls – Get the 12-roll package or bake your favorite ones.
Deli ham – I love the herbed roasted version of ham, but use the one you have on hand; any would work in this recipe.
Sliced mozzarella cheese – We went with mozzarella as it melts great. Another amazing option is using creamy Havarti cheese.
Dijon mustard – It provides a sharp flavor kick that’s so good.
Unsalted butter – Buttery rolls are always better, so don’t skip it!
Worcestershire sauce – It gives a subtle umami flavor to the sliders that I love.
Poppy seeds – Crunchy poppy seeds are popular on ham and cheese sliders and look beautiful.
Onion powder and garlic powder – An extra flavour hint to the buttery topping.
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper – Just enough to enhance the overall taste in these sliders.

What Cheese Goes Best With Ham?
Harvarti is a classic pairing for ham because its buttery, mild, hazelnut flavor complements the salty meat without overpowering it.
Other delicious options include:
- Cheddar
- Provolone
- Gruyère
- Swiss
- Monterey Jack
- Pepper Jack
- Mozzarella
How to Make Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 8×11-inch baking dish (or 9×13″ if you rolls are larger) or line it with parchment paper.
Without separating the rolls, slice the entire slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally. Place the bottom half in the prepared baking dish.
Spread the softened butter over the bottom rolls, then spread the Dijon mustard evenly on top.
Layer half of the cheese over the rolls, followed by the ham, then finish with the remaining mozzarella. This creates a perfectly melty layer of cheese on both sides of the ham.

Place the top half of the rolls back on.
In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Brush the butter mixture generously over the tops and sides of the rolls, allowing it to seep into the seams.
Cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes.
Remove the foil and continue baking for 2-3 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

Recipe Pro Tips

How to prepare Ham and Cheese Sliders ahead of time?
To save some time prior to serving, you can prepare the sliders without brushing the tops up to six hours before baking. Keep them airtight so the rolls don’t dry out. Then, you simply apply the topping while preheating the oven.
How to make sliders not soggy?
These ham cheese sliders are supposed to be soggy as they don’t include a saucy filling.
Can Ham and Cheese sliders be frozen?
Yes! These sliders freeze great. Simply store them with a layer of foil first and then a Ziploc bag or wrap paper. When ready to consume, there’s no need to thaw. Place them in a cold oven, still wrapped in foil, set it to 350°F, and bake for 35- 40 minutes. Starting from cold lets them thaw gently as the oven comes up to temperature.
How long do Ham and Cheese sliders last in the fridge?
Sliders last up to five days in the fridge. Keep them in an airtight container so they stay fresh. You can warm them up in a preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or even quicker in an Air Fryer, about 3-5 minutes.
