Welcome to our site, which we have had for the past 12+ years! I have had a passion for food and recipe development my whole life. Starting as a young child, I loved making Julia Child’s creations and many other recipes, trying along the way to always improve myself and the recipes I make.
Originally, my career was as a Registered Nurse working in surgical areas, including Open Heart ICU, for many years.
I then moved on to owning a gift basket company and retail gift store, followed by being a sales representative for cards and gifts before landing squarely on creating this blog.

While working in these other careers, I always made time for cooking, baking, and entertaining. That has always been my passion. I attacked every recipe with great intentions of always making it better than the original.
Growing Up
I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, moving at 7 from Hamilton to Burlington. My parents loved gourmet food and entertained me regularly. My own passion grew from that, and I took over the kitchen, even creating meals for my family and their friends for special occasions. Cooking and baking always intrigued me. I have solid memories of shelling peas with Dad and peeling pears with Mom endlessly for dinners and canning. Our backyard was filled with pear trees, so there was always a great supply for us at hand. Growing up in Southern Ontario, we had the best produce around. My love of food did not stop but strengthened when I moved to Alberta in 1988 and then married my husband, Ken, in 1992.
Creating the Blog
Later, I wanted to instill my love of food in our daughter, Amber. So, at a very young age, she came into the kitchen with her friends on Friday nights, and we created recipes together. This eventually led to me starting the blog. People have always asked me for my advice in all aspects of cooking. So, I started writing down all my ideas and recipes to share.

Our Continued Journey
Here at Noshing With The Nolands and BBQing With The Nolands, it is still a family affair! Our daughter is now in university and still helps us create and test so many recipes.
We split our time now between Calgary, AB, and Canmore, AB, heading to the mountains whenever we can. We still entertain a lot, but in my relaxing time, you will probably find me in front of a food show, taking it all in so that I can bring you the latest innovation. Or heading to the farmers’ market or new gourmet store checking out all that is fresh, new, and interesting.
