Once the bananas are mashed, beat up a few eggs. Then pour the ingredients into the bread pan in the sequence listed, leaving the dry ingredients to the last.

Put your machine on the quick bread setting and medium crust setting and start the machine.

In a few short hours, you have a gorgeous loaf like this coming out of your bread machine. Careful when removing the bread pan, then let the loaf rest for 10 minutes, and then remove the loaf from the pan to a rack to fully cool. Nothing can be easier.

Recipe Variations

You can add or omit ingredients in this recipe like nuts, or change them up to walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts or whatever you have on hand or like.

Many people love the addition of chocolate chips, or you can try fruit like blueberries, dried cranberries, and coconut.

Expert Tips

Depending on your bread machine model it may need a little nudge and I stir it after the first mix with a rubber spatula in mine.

Can You Use All-purpose Flour in a Bread Machine Instead of Bread Flour?

You can use all-purpose flour instead of bread machine flour, and that is what I usually use.

Our banana bread recipe was adapted from a traditional loaf recipe to one that will work well in the bread machine. I didn’t want you to have to buy different ingredients for that.

Why is My Bread so Dense in My Bread Machine?

I don’t have a problem with the bread being too dense with using this recipe. One of the culprits can be not putting the ingredients in order, or it may be that you have too much moisture.

Try this recipe, and it should remedy that situation of your bread being too dense.

How do You Know if Banana Bread is Undercooked or Cooked?

The traditional way of doing it is with a cake tester or the touch method to see if it springs back, but that is pretty hard in a bread machine.

One way you can tell is if the top still looks underdone. To fix that, just leave the bread in the machine with the heat that is already there for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. This should finish the baking process for you.

Bread may have differing results if your bread pan is an upright or horizontal pan. Experimentation is your best bet, too, but this loaf has been tried in both.

Storage Instructions

The bread machine banana bread recipe survives on our counter for a few days. We store it in an airtight container or wrap it well in plastic wrap.

For longer storage banana bread does freeze well again wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an air-tight container.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 medium-sized bananas very ripe or frozen and thawed, mashed
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 cup pecans chopped

Instructions

  • Pour the ingredients into the bread pan in the sequence listed. Put the machine on the quick bread setting and medium crust setting and start the machine.
  • If the top of the bread still doesn't look done, leave the bread in the bread machine while it is still warm for 10 minutes or until baked.
  • Let the pan cool for 10 minutes, and remove the loaf with oven mitts, as it will still be hot. Don't forget to remove the mixing paddle also from the bottom of the loaf.
  • Let the bread cool completely on a wire cooling rack. Slice and serve.
  • Makes a 1 1/2 lb. loaf.

Definitely follow the order of ingredients, tried to mix all of the wet ingredients together before dumping them in my machine like one other comment suggested and it did NOT turn out well-the flour didn’t mix properly because I guess the wet mixture wasn’t wet enough lol and I also found that it didn’t cook long enough on the express 1.5 loaf setting even leaving it in the machine until it literally tried to start the loaf over again (about another hour after it had beeped) second attempt I made it on express 2.0 setting, it’s definitely a 1.5 pound loaf but the extra cook time on that setting made a difference, I still left it in for maybe another 20 minutes because I went to fold a load of laundry and forgot about the loaf in the maker but this one baked perfectly. This recipe makes a delicious banana bread it’s very moist with just the right amount of crumble the only thing my boyfriend and I agreed that it needs is some spice-maybe add some cinnamon and nutmeg, I’ll be trying that on my third attempt 😉 (just to add I have a Hamilton beach bread maker that I just bought from Walmart 2025)

This bread tasted good and was nice and moist but I needed to cook it an extra 30 minutes in my bread maker.

Each bread maker will be slightly different so you have to accommodate for that.

We just made our first loaf of bread in our new Hamilton beach bread maker using this recipe and it turned out perfect. Very moist, dense, sweet and delicious. We did substitute chocolate for pecans and also substituted 1/2 brown sugar instead of white sugar as that’s just what we had on hand.

Absolute disaster and I’ve made several other quick breads without issues. Left in machine extra 10 minutes, but when I turned over on wire rack – entire center fell out.

I am so sorry you had this issue, it certainly isn’t the recipe but sounds like your machine didn’t bake it. I wonder if you had it on the right settings for your machine.

Do you think that your bread machine might not be working as well? Or maybe your bananas are larger?

I make this bread 2 to 3 times a month. I do mix all together first because for some reason mine doesn’t mix all the way and I do let it cook a extra 10 to 15 mins. After I have made those adjustments it’s great and friends and family love it!

I just made this recipe in my bread maker. I noticed that there was flour still sitting on the top of the cake mix not blended in properly. So I opened the lid, gave it a good stir (so I thought). Anyway, it cooked, it looked perfect, until I cut it open. All the way though it was uncooked/unmixed flour. I could have cried. I will try again. Would this still work if I mixed all of the ingredients together before putting it into my machine?

Some bread machines are just better than others for mixing and baking. You might be able to mix it together and hopefully not get it too mixed in the bread machine. I sometimes give mine a little nudge with some extra mixing between cycles if it hasn’t mixed well.

Yuck – won’t be making this again! Followed the recipe to a T and half the bread was raw. I let it sit because it still didn’t look done, and it didn’t help at all. A friend was over when I made it, had her try it and she said, “umm.. its interesting? It doesn’t taste like banana though.”

This would be a bread machine setting that has caused your bread to not cook properly.
