Professional Cheese Grater – Stainless Steel, XL Size, 4 Sides

What is in Chicken Chowder?

Chicken Chowder is a cream soup that is thicker than most. It has chicken, vegetables, and cheese along with spices.
Recipe Ingredients
Chicken Broth – Use a good chicken broth that has lots of flavor.
Potatoes – I like to use small yellow potatoes for this recipe; they are easy to cut into bite-sized pieces.
Carrots, Celery, Onion – This combination of vegetables is called a mirepoix.
Salt and Pepper (to taste) – Perfect seasonings for almost any savory dish. I use Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper.
Minced Garlic – Freshly minced is always the best, but for a time saver, I love to use jarred.
Butter – Salted butter is perfect for this soup.
All-Purpose Flour – This is used as the thickener for the soup.
Milk – I like to use whole milk or 3 % for this recipe to ensure it is nice and creamy.
Cheddar Cheese – A medium cheddar works great in this recipe. Freshly grated will have it melting the best.
Shredded Chicken – Leftover chicken works wonderfully here. Or you can use a rotisserie chicken, too.
Chopped Green Onion (for topping) – For garnish, it adds a fresh onion flavor.
Shredded Cheese (for topping) – You can never have enough cheese.
How to Make Chicken Chowder

Start by adding your broth, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper to a large pot.
Bring to a boil and continue to simmer until all vegetables are tender.

Prepare your sauce by melting your butter in a skillet. Stir in flour and spices and add milk. Continue whisking until thick and smooth. Gradually add in your shredded cheese, stirring until smooth and well combined.

Add your cheese sauce and shredded chicken to your pot of vegetables.

Whisk everything together until well combined.
Serve and enjoy. The perfect chowder on a chilly day.
Recipe Pro Tips!

Do not boil this soup after the milk has been added as it may curdle. For reheating use a pot on low to medium-low.
Storage
This soup can be kept in the refrigerator for 3 days in an air-tight container.
Usually, cream soups can’t be frozen as they will get grainy and unappetizing when thawed. This soup is best made and eaten.
Additions
You can add other vegetables and, most traditionally, corn to make this into a chicken corn chowder. Other options are peppers, leeks, mushrooms, and diced tomatoes.
