Feta is a white, brined cheese with a crumbly texture and tangy, salty flavor. It’s traditionally made from sheep’s milk, although sometimes it’s blended with goat’s milk. It’s a Greek product that has been created for years.

Ingredients for Marinated Feta

Recipe Ingredients
Feta cheese – Greek feta is the best quality feta you’ll find in the store.
Extra virgin olive oil – Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil for best results.
Garlic – Using fresh garlic is your best bet for this recipe.
Lemon zest – It adds a subtle tanginess that pairs great with salty feta.
Dried oregano – I love using oregano in Mediterranean dishes, but you can also replace it with your favorite herbs.
Red pepper flakes – Adds a mild spiciness. You can use chili flakes to achieve a different level of spiciness.
Fresh thyme and rosemary – You can use both or just one of them.
Black pepper – I always recommend using freshly cracked black pepper.
Crusty bread – My preference is to use a sourdough bread as it is crusty and moist altogether. But use what you have on hand here.
How to make Marinated Feta?

First, pat the feta dry with a paper towel and cut into bite-sized cubes.
Then, in a clean jar or small container, layer the feta with garlic slices, lemon zest, herbs, and red pepper flakes. Pour olive oil over everything until the feta is fully submerged.
Finally, cover and refrigerate for at least 12 hours, ideally 24 hours, for the flavors to fully infuse.
Bring to room temperature before serving.

- Crumble or cube the marinated feta over Greek salad, chicken Mediterranean salad, or grain bowls.
- Use the leftover oil as a dressing—it’s already full of flavor!
How long does Marinated Feta last in the fridge?
Marinated feta lasts up to 1 week in the fridge if stored in an airtight container fully submerged in its oil and marinade.
Here are a couple of tips for the best results:
- Make sure the oil completely covers the cheese.
- Use a clean fork to remove feta from the jar to avoid contaminating it with bacteria.
- If you see any odd smell or mold, it’s best to discard it.
