So you are looking at three ripe bananas on the counter. Grab them, and mash them up. Then add a few other simple ingredients that you probably already have in the pantry and fridge. Within minutes, you have a loaf of delicious banana bread started in the bread machine.
Nuts can be optional in this recipe, but I love them; either chopped walnuts or pecans will work.
Ingredients
Milk
Large eggs
Butter
Vanilla extract
Ripe or frozen and thawed bananas
Sour cream
Sugar
All-purpose flour
Salt
Baking powder
Baking soda
Pecans
How To Make Bread Machine Banana Bread
Once the bananas are mashed, beat up a few eggs. Then pour the ingredients into the bread pan in the sequence listed, leaving the dry ingredients to the last.
Put your machine on the quick bread setting and medium crust setting and start the machine.
In a few short hours, you have a gorgeous loaf like this coming out of your bread machine. Careful when removing the bread pan, then let the loaf rest for 10 minutes, and then remove the loaf from the pan to a rack to fully cool. Nothing can be easier.
Recipe Variations
You can add or omit ingredients in this recipe like nuts, or change them up to walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts or whatever you have on hand or like.
Many people love the addition of chocolate chips, or you can try fruit like blueberries, dried cranberries, and coconut.
Expert Tips
Depending on your bread machine model it may need a little nudge and I stir it after the first mix with a rubber spatula in mine.
Recipe Pro Tips!
Can You Use All-purpose Flour in a Bread Machine Instead of Bread Flour?
You can use all-purpose flour instead of bread machine flour, and that is what I usually use.
Our banana bread recipe was adapted from a traditional loaf recipe to one that will work well in the bread machine. I didn’t want you to have to buy different ingredients for that.
Why is My Bread so Dense in My Bread Machine?
I don’t have a problem with the bread being too dense with using this recipe. One of the culprits can be not putting the ingredients in order, or it may be that you have too much moisture.
Try this recipe, and it should remedy that situation of your bread being too dense.
How do You Know if Banana Bread is Undercooked or Cooked?
The traditional way of doing it is with a cake tester or the touch method to see if it springs back, but that is pretty hard in a bread machine.
One way you can tell is if the top still looks underdone. To fix that, just leave the bread in the machine with the heat that is already there for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. This should finish the baking process for you.
Bread may have differing results if your bread pan is an upright or horizontal pan. Experimentation is your best bet, too, but this loaf has been tried in both.
Storage Instructions
The bread machine banana bread recipe survives on our counter for a few days. We store it in an airtight container or wrap it well in plastic wrap.
For longer storage banana bread does freeze well again wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an air-tight container.
Kids love having a fresh slice of banana bread from the oven. Make it easier on yourself and bake them a loaf in the bread machine.

do I use the 1.5 pound or 2 pound setting on the bread machine.
thanks for posting this recipe, cant wait to try
Tara Noland says
I don’t have that setting on this machine I have now but if I remember correctly it would be 1.5 as a 2 lb. is quite big.
Danielle says
My older bread machine doesn’t have the quick bread setting. So it keeps coming out kind of raw in the middle even after staying in the machine longer. I’ve had to finish it off in the oven twice now on two separate setting. Still turned out fine though. Do you have an oven version of this same recipe? Mostly, I just need to know what temperature to bake it at and I’ll just mix it all up and make it in the oven. This is the best recipe I’ve ever tasted, thank you so much.
Tara Noland says
I am sorry that is happening to you Danielle. You can bake it in the oven at 350F for about 1 hour.
Lillie says
Danielle,my machine doesn’t have that setting either so I looked in my book and it said to set it on the cake setting.
I just made it and it looks good so far still waiting for it to cool which is hard because it smells amazing.
Tara Noland says
That should work just fine! Same thing really.

We have 10 minutes to wait to taste this bread…our home smells amazing from the bread baking…wow…my mouth is watering!!!…thanks for the recipe!
Erika says
I followed this recipe EXACTLY but my bread turned out a total mess😥 the sides had tall dark crusts then a sunken ring and a rounded underdone center almost like 2 different loaves. What happened? What did I do wrong?
Tara Noland says
Hmmm, doesn’t sound good. Could your baking soda or baking powder be old? Are you sure you added the exact amounts. Have you made a quick bread in your machine before? Were your setting correct?
Becky says
Mine did the same, but it wasn’t the ingredients it’s the older model bread machine I have. The quick/express bread and sweet bread settings are for breads that contain yeast. Trying to find a conversion factor to yeast but so far no luck

My machine doesn’t have a quick bread setting so I looked in my book and it said to use the cake setting…making it now! I hope it turns out🤔
Jen says
This is my go to banana bread recipe. Didn’t have nuts to add but I did add a little bit of cinnamon. It had great consistency and wasn’t super dense. I make a pumpkin bread in the bread machine that’s delicious but it’s like a soft brick! If that makes sense. Thanks for the recipe!
Tara Noland says

Terrible, dry, not sweet at all. I actually added sugar after tasting the batter and it was still tasteless. Disappointing waste of time and money
DJ says
Can you swap out regular sugar for honey in this recipe?
Tara Noland says
I am sorry but I have not tried that so I can’t tell you if it would work on not.
Georgette says
Yes I have done it is fine

May I ask you what size loaf this is or will that be needed on the Quick Bread Setting?
Really does look amazing can’t wait to try it this weekend.
Tara Noland says
I don’t believe my bread machine asks that on the quick bread setting but I would say 1.5 lb. would work great.
Heidi says
2 or 3 cups of flour is a 1.5 pound loaf of bread I’m just making it now and I will let you know how it comes out

Banana bread is one of my all-time favorite treats! I can’t wait to try your recipe! I keep saying I need to make some banana bread, but my kids have been eating all our bananas and we haven’t had any get overly ripe!
Faith says
I put bananas in the freezer especially when I want them to ripen quickly. Freeze overnight thaw the next day and they are ready and mushy.
Tara Noland says
Great idea, thanks for sharing!

I really want to add pecans to banana bread next time I make it. I normally think of walnuts first but I prefer pecans. Your bread looks beautiful and tasty!
Jen Miyagishima says
I love banana bread! I’d love to modify this recipe & make it one day. My daughter is allergic to nuts, so I’d make it without the pecans.
Tara Noland says
That is easy to do and just omit them, enjoy!

What a great idea for the bread machine. I will have to make this recipe
Mama to 6 Blessings says
I make a lot of homemade banana bread in our home because I hate throwing away over ripe bananas. I have never made it in a bread machine though, definitely sounds much easier. I like the dump and go method!
