Angry Chicken Wings Ingredients
Recipe Ingredients
Chicken wings – use fresh chicken or thaw it properly if frozen.
Canola oil – you can use any oil of your convenience here.
Salt and pepper – as a rule of thumb, add 1/2 tsp of salt per pound of meat. Add ground pepper to taste.
Chili powder – adds a bold flavor to these wings. If not on hand, you can replace with smoked paprika, cumin, and garlic powder.
Sugar and honey – we used both to level the spiciness of this recipe. You can adjust it to your preference.
Sesame oil – adds flavor and moisture to the wings.
Sesame seeds – these are a nice garnish and will make the wings stand out.
Rice wine vinegar – a needed tanginess to this Angry sauce.
Soy sauce – adds bold color and flavor to balance the heat.
Ginger – adds a refreshing hint to this sauce.
Garlic – use fresh minced garlic or garlic paste. Whatever suits you best.
Harissa paste – I love this North African hot paste. It combines chili and garlic, which turns out in a flavorful and hot sauce.
How to Make Chicken Wings with Angry Sauce
Preheat oven to 450F. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray. Lay the wings out on the baking sheet. Drizzle with the canola oil and season with salt and pepper and toss. Roast the wings for 40-45 min. or until cooked and crisp. Turn halfway through cooking time to cook evenly.
Add the remaining ingredients to a large bowl and mix together well. Taste and adjust the heat with more sugar or honey if you like.
Once the wings are nicely golden, remove them from the oven.
Combine the wings with the Angry sauce and toss well to coat.
Prepare the yogurt dip by mixing yogurt, lemon juice, salt, and fresh parsley. Garnish the wings with sesame seeds and serve.
Recipe Pro Tips!
Tips For Adjusting the Heat
- To adjust the heat in this sauce, you can reduce the amount of Harissa Paste and replace it with a bit of BBQ sauce or Ketchup.
- Another option is to increase the amount of honey or sugar.
- Also, dipping the wings in yogurt soothes the heat effect on your mouth.
What is Harissa Paste
Harissa paste is a North African condiment made primarily from chili peppers, garlic, olive oil, and spices. It originates from Tunisia and is widely used in cuisines across North Africa and the Middle East. It is a spicy paste but also has flavor and not just heat.

FYI soy sauce is NOT gluten free! If you are going to label your recipes with allergen information educated yourself before you or someone that makes your recipe gets someone sick or worse. As a person with Celiac disease I find it ironic your Angry Sauce makes me angry. 😡
Tara Noland says
FYI, there are gluten free soy sauces and if you have Celiac disease you will need to know that!! That was a slight omission on my behalf but if you have a disease that you need to be watching what you intake that is the responsiblity of the individual to make sure you have purchased correctly. I find your comment not helpful in a nice and kind way but very antagonistic. Maybe rethink how you are approaching something next time.
