These Bacon Wrapped Asparagus are always a hit for an appetizer. They are easy to make and the best crowd-pleaser with crispy bacon on the outside that you basted in a honey Dijon glaze that makes them extra special. These are amazing as hors d’oeuvres, but you can also make bacon-wrapped asparagus bundles as a side dish too.

What Ingredients do you need for Bacon Wrapped Asparagus?

Ingredients for Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

This bacon wrapped asparagus recipe is simple to make with easy-to-find ingredients. There is nothing better than tender asparagus with bacon. The best of two worlds come together. I really like to use a Dijon mustard for a recipe like this. It gives that extra tang and bite that just adds so much more flavor to a tiny spear like this. The red pepper flakes add some great heat, too, but you can omit them if you don’t want the added heat.

If you would like to make this as a side dish, then wrap the bacon around 2-3 asparagus and cook the bundles the same way you do the spears.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch asparagus
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp cracked black pepper
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 8 pieces thick center cut bacon
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

How To Make Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

This recipe has a short cooking time, so an appetizer will be ready quickly. We also have a little trick to get the bacon extra crispy too. Let’s dive into the recipe.

Preheat the oven to 400°

Wash and dry asparagus spears. Make a cut 1″ from the bottom of the spear and discard. Add asparagus to a mixing bowl and toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Take a piece of bacon and cut bacon down the center. Take a slice of bacon, and starting at the top of the asparagus stalks, wrap the bacon around the stalk. Tuck the end of the bacon in, or use a toothpick to secure it.

A lot of recipes just wrap bacon around asparagus, and that is it! Boring!! We have a gorgeous honey mustard glaze to enhance these little spears that will make you want to grab one after another!

In a small mixing bowl, combine honey, dijon mustard, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and minced garlic. Whisk well.

Lay asparagus onto a wire rack-lined baking sheet. Brush each with the glaze. You can line your pan with foil for extra-easy clean-up.

Place the baking sheet into the oven on the center rack. Bake for 7 minutes, then remove from the oven. Turn the asparagus over, and brush with the glaze. Place back into the oven for 7 more minutes. Turn off the oven.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven, and brush the asparagus with the glaze on both sides. Place under the broiler for 4 minutes, turning halfway through. This will crisp up the bacon.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

How To Grill Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

To grill these Bacon Wrapped Asparagus, you need to watch them carefully. Grill them on medium heat but watch for flareups and keep moving them and turning them as they cook.

Another idea if you want to cook these on the BBQ is to use a grill pan or flat-iron griddle. This would give you no flareups, and you would still have crispy delicious bacon and perfectly cooked asparagus.

How to Air Fry Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

Another way to cook these bacon wrapped asparagus is to air fry them. To roast the asparagus in an air fryer is easy; just simply spray your air fryer basket with non-stick spray. Then brush each spear with the honey mustard glaze and cook them in batches, making sure to not overcrowd the air fryer.

Cook at 390 degrees for 10 minutes, repeat with the rest of the asparagus.
