Do you love fajitas but hate the super high sodium in packaged products? Then make your own Salt-Free Fajita Seasoning with Mexican spices you probably already have in your pantry.
We have already given you a No Sodium Taco Seasoning that has been very popular. I love making our own seasonings as it is not only easy but less expensive, and you know exactly what goes into it. Want to add a little salt, then you can do that but on your own terms. Another favorite is our Herbs de Provence, perfect on roast chicken.
Look at that juicy seasoned chicken; it really wants you to make homemade fajitas tonight, doesn’t it?

Use 1 – 1 ½ Tbsp to season 1 pound of chicken or beef cut into strips before cooking.
Add 1 tsp to the peppers and onions while they are cooking.
Enjoy!
Note: Use immediately or store in an air-tight container for future use.
What is the Difference Between Fajita Seasoning and Taco Seasoning?
Well, fajita and taco seasoning can be very similar; sometimes, taco seasoning has more spice, but in our case, I like more spice in a fajita. This is where you can make it your own by tweaking the spices slightly.
We have a lot more ingredients in our fajitas spice than our taco, and we have added a little thickener too. This helps the seasoning adhere to the chicken, beef, or whatever protein you are using.
Some people ask can I use taco seasoning for fajitas or vice versa. Absolutely you can, as they are so similar.
How Much Sodium is in a Chicken Fajita?
A serving of chicken fajitas can have as much as 400 mg of sodium, and while it might not taste overly salty, that sodium is lurking in there.
To avoid that, if you need to is to make your own seasonings. I actually think they are better and literally take you a few minutes to make up a batch that can be stored in your pantry for later use too.
Make sure your spices are sodium free as some can fool you, like chili powder which is a blend of spices.
How Long Will Premade Seasoning Last?
Premade seasoning and ground spices have the same longevity, and as a general rule, they last about 2 to 3 years, whereas dried herbs only last about 1-2 years.
Do you have spices that you have inherited from your mother’s pantry? We all seem to keep them forever, but they really do mellow in flavor. You would be so amazed to put an old spice next to a fresh one and see the flavor difference. Do yourself a favor and pitch your old spices one at a time, and each time you go to the grocery store, replace one. In no time, you will have a fresh pantry of spices again.
As for herbs, try growing and drying your own in the summer months. You will be amazed how much you get, you just maybe sharing with family and friends too.
