Expert Tips
Depending on your bread machine model it may need a little nudge and I stir it after the first mix with a rubber spatula in mine.
Recipe Pro Tips!
Can You Use All-purpose Flour in a Bread Machine Instead of Bread Flour?
You can use all-purpose flour instead of bread machine flour, and that is what I usually use.
Our banana bread recipe was adapted from a traditional loaf recipe to one that will work well in the bread machine. I didn’t want you to have to buy different ingredients for that.
Why is My Bread so Dense in My Bread Machine?
I don’t have a problem with the bread being too dense with using this recipe. One of the culprits can be not putting the ingredients in order, or it may be that you have too much moisture.
Try this recipe, and it should remedy that situation of your bread being too dense.
How do You Know if Banana Bread is Undercooked or Cooked?
The traditional way of doing it is with a cake tester or the touch method to see if it springs back, but that is pretty hard in a bread machine.
One way you can tell is if the top still looks underdone. To fix that, just leave the bread in the machine with the heat that is already there for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. This should finish the baking process for you.
Bread may have differing results if your bread pan is an upright or horizontal pan. Experimentation is your best bet, too, but this loaf has been tried in both.
Storage Instructions
The bread machine banana bread recipe survives on our counter for a few days. We store it in an airtight container or wrap it well in plastic wrap.
For longer storage banana bread does freeze well again wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an air-tight container.
Kids love having a fresh slice of banana bread from the oven. Make it easier on yourself and bake them a loaf in the bread machine.

I’ve made this like 6 times first 2 perfect but these last ones it’s not done at the top in the middle. I’ve tried leaving it forever but still doesn’t get done. I’m so disappointed
Tara Noland says
Do you think that your bread machine might not be working as well? Or maybe your bananas are larger?
Mandy says
Can you substitute something for the sour cream?
Tara Noland says
You can substitute with creme fraiche, yogurt or Greek yogurt.

I make this bread 2 to 3 times a month. I do mix all together first because for some reason mine doesn’t mix all the way and I do let it cook a extra 10 to 15 mins. After I have made those adjustments it’s great and friends and family love it!
Tara Noland says
Yes, some bread machines just don’t mix well, I am glad you got it to work for you and you are enjoying it.

I just made this recipe in my bread maker. I noticed that there was flour still sitting on the top of the cake mix not blended in properly. So I opened the lid, gave it a good stir (so I thought). Anyway, it cooked, it looked perfect, until I cut it open. All the way though it was uncooked/unmixed flour. I could have cried. I will try again. Would this still work if I mixed all of the ingredients together before putting it into my machine?
Tara Noland says
Some bread machines are just better than others for mixing and baking. You might be able to mix it together and hopefully not get it too mixed in the bread machine. I sometimes give mine a little nudge with some extra mixing between cycles if it hasn’t mixed well.

Yuck – won’t be making this again! Followed the recipe to a T and half the bread was raw. I let it sit because it still didn’t look done, and it didn’t help at all. A friend was over when I made it, had her try it and she said, “umm.. its interesting? It doesn’t taste like banana though.”
Tara Noland says
This would be a bread machine setting that has caused your bread to not cook properly.
