So you are looking at three ripe bananas on the counter. Grab them, and mash them up. Then add a few other simple ingredients that you probably already have in the pantry and fridge. Within minutes, you have a loaf of delicious banana bread started in the bread machine.
Nuts can be optional in this recipe, but I love them; either chopped walnuts or pecans will work.

How To Make Bread Machine Banana Bread
Once the bananas are mashed, beat up a few eggs. Then pour the ingredients into the bread pan in the sequence listed, leaving the dry ingredients to the last.
Put your machine on the quick bread setting and medium crust setting and start the machine.
In a few short hours, you have a gorgeous loaf like this coming out of your bread machine. Careful when removing the bread pan, then let the loaf rest for 10 minutes, and then remove the loaf from the pan to a rack to fully cool. Nothing can be easier.
Recipe Variations
You can add or omit ingredients in this recipe like nuts, or change them up to walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts or whatever you have on hand or like.
Many people love the addition of chocolate chips, or you can try fruit like blueberries, dried cranberries, and coconut.
Expert Tips
Depending on your bread machine model it may need a little nudge and I stir it after the first mix with a rubber spatula in mine.
Recipe Pro Tips!
Can You Use All-purpose Flour in a Bread Machine Instead of Bread Flour?
You can use all-purpose flour instead of bread machine flour, and that is what I usually use.
Our banana bread recipe was adapted from a traditional loaf recipe to one that will work well in the bread machine. I didn’t want you to have to buy different ingredients for that.
Why is My Bread so Dense in My Bread Machine?
I don’t have a problem with the bread being too dense with using this recipe. One of the culprits can be not putting the ingredients in order, or it may be that you have too much moisture.
Try this recipe, and it should remedy that situation of your bread being too dense.
How do You Know if Banana Bread is Undercooked or Cooked?
The traditional way of doing it is with a cake tester or the touch method to see if it springs back, but that is pretty hard in a bread machine.
One way you can tell is if the top still looks underdone. To fix that, just leave the bread in the machine with the heat that is already there for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. This should finish the baking process for you.
Bread may have differing results if your bread pan is an upright or horizontal pan. Experimentation is your best bet, too, but this loaf has been tried in both.
Storage Instructions
The bread machine banana bread recipe survives on our counter for a few days. We store it in an airtight container or wrap it well in plastic wrap.
For longer storage banana bread does freeze well again wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an air-tight container.
Kids love having a fresh slice of banana bread from the oven. Make it easier on yourself and bake them a loaf in the bread machine.

I made this with sucanat and organic cane sugar, 1/3 cup less. Fantastic! I did have to finish in the oven for 15 minutes. Thank you…great recipe! I wish I could show a picture.

Turned out perfect! I used mini chocolate chips instead of nuts, the whole family loved it and it was gone fast! Making another loaf now 🙂

Amazing! Thanks for sharing this with us. made this tonight in my Cuisinart 2010 version bread maker. I did have to stir the batter in the machine halfway through the “kneading” cycle. I only used 1/2cup of sugar(I omitted sugar in error one time many years ago and it was delicious without.. who knew? but no other changes. Cooked all the way through and slices beautifully. Can’t wait to try your other recipes

So glad to hear!! Tell me when you try more recipes too, please.

I made this today with my machine and the bread was sooo good. I will say that after I didn’t the quick setting, it still wasn’t done so I left it in for another 10mins but that did cook it. I decided to try the bake option for another 20-30mins and it was perfect. Just had to play around with it to make it right for my machine! Thanks so much for a wonderful recipe.
Tara Noland says
Perfect, all bread machines are different so there is some play needed. Once you have it figured out you are good to go!!

I have made this twice now. First time the top wasnt baked, but I doscovered that my lid was not closed all the way. Second time, top looked cooked, felt done, took it out and top fell apart and the whole middle wasnt cooked. Any suggestions?
Tara Noland says
Sounds like it is a setting issue on your bread machine, are you able to up it at all with a larger loaf size?

Awesome recipe. Thanks for sharing.
Can I use yogurt in place of ice cream?
Tara Noland says
I am sure you mean sour cream and yes, use a good Greek yogurt.
Lindsey says
Can I omit the sour cream?
Tara Noland says
You can just add a 1/4 cup more banana instead.

Made this last night on a delayed timer. I used the 2lb loaf setting (that’s the smallest mine goes) and had to customize the times since my “cake” setting doesn’t allow for the delayed timer.
Used 2 fresh bananas, and 1 frozen. I mashed the fresh ones and mixed with the sugar, eggs, vanilla and sour cream (I actually subbed for Greek yogurt). And then plopped a cold frozen banana in with it to try and keep things cold over night. Added like 1/4 tsp nutmeg and 1 tsp cinnamon to the dry ingredients when layering. Reduced butter to 1/3 cup, cubed it into 1 TBSP(ish) portions and lined them up on the top of the dry ingredients. It turned out amazing other than a little burnt on the bottom (left it on the warm setting a little too long).
Thanks for the base recipe and idea to try this! Will absolutely do it again!
Tara Noland says
Glad you made it your own and it worked out!! Enjoy!!
Kim says
Is this recipe for a 2lb loaf?
Tara Noland says
I would think it is closer to a 1.5 lb. but my bread machine is different.
Nicole says
my bread maker (breadman ) does not have the quick bread setting. or the cake setting as mentioned above. It does have fruit&nut and alsorxtreme rapid, do you think it will work?
Tara Noland says
I am not sure as it might be a setting for when you add nuts and fruit. You can always give it a try!!

I haven’t tried but you might be able to.

K I just started this in the bread machine.
It’s fine with the mixing… But it looks sooo wet still. Is that normal?
Tara Noland says
Hi Trisha, hard to know what you see when you say sooo wet. Hopefully it bakes up fine.

Thanks for the recipe. I had several overripe bananas that I had to freeze and your recipe absolutely fit the bill of what I was looking for. Funny story: I decided to make the bread this morning. I just got everything going in the bread maker and our power went out. (Please note: I don’t start cooking anything if it’s storming. It was a calm morning, no storm in sight.) When the power came on I turned the bread maker on again. The bread turned out pretty darned good!
Tara Noland says
Good to know that it can even survive an outage!! I have got to make myself a loaf again, love banana bread!
