This Easy Guacamole Recipe is packed full of healthy, delicious ingredients like avocados, black beans, tomatoes, jalapenos, and more. It is a homemade guacamole recipe that supposedly Joe Montana loves for game day. It is one that we have enjoyed for so many years, and can’t wait for football season to be in full swing again!

Today I bring you Joe Montana’s Touchdown Guacamole. I have loved football forever, but I was really addicted to it back when Joe Montana was playing with the 49ers. Those were great years of football!! My friend Karen and I would watch all the games but especially her team, the Miami Dolphins, and mine, the San Fransisco 49ers. We had a friendly rivalry going on at that time.
Watching football and munching away on food kind of go hand in hand. Ken had found this recipe a few years ago, and even though he doesn’t like guacamole, he loves this one. Chunky and full of flavor. Thanks to Ken for finding it and to Joe Montana for all those great years of football and for this fabulous guacamole. Love it!!

What is Traditional Guacamole Made of?
We have added a few more ingredients than traditional guacamole with Joe Montana’s Touchdown Guacamole. Is guacamole just mashed avocado? The answer is no, traditionally though all you need is avocados, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, lime juice, garlic, and salt.
Below you will see what is in our guacamole, and it is so perfect for your gameday feast.
What is in Easy Guacamole?
Simple ingredients go into this simple guacamole. This is not an authentic guacamole, as we have added other guacamole ingredients. We like to leave it chunky also, so it is not a guacamole dip either. It is a fabulous chunky, delightful guacamole to enjoy anytime.
Ingredients
Ripe avocados, seeded, peeled, and diced – If you can’t find ripe avocados see our pro tips below to ripen them quickly.
Ripe red tomatoes, diced – You can use any kind of tomato you like for this. Romas work well as they aren’t too juicy, but whatever you have on hand will work.
Jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely diced – Use gloves when working with jalapenos so that you don’t have any chance of rubbing their oils into your eyes.
Black beans drained and rinsed – These black beans add not only color and texture but flavor to this wonderful chunky dip.
Green onions, thinly sliced – A great substitute for the green onion is red onion, but if you don’t like that biting edge that red onion has, you can use a sweet onion or stick with the green onions.
Limes, juiced – I like fresh lime juice way more than lemon juice in guacamole.
Sharp-aged cheddar cheese, grated – Make sure your cheddar is aged, or it will get lost with all the other flavors that are going on in this guacamole.
Garlic salt – This adds lots of flavor to the guacamole but don’t go heavy on the salt.
How to Make Easy Guacamole
Making guacamole is simple, fast, and easy. You just need a cutting board, grater, knife, and a big bowl. In no time, you will be digging in. No need to let the guacamole sit.
Place two of the avocados in a bowl. Add the tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, garlic salt, and lime juice. Mash the avocado and other ingredients lightly with a potato masher. Add the beans, onions, and cheese, along with the two remaining avocados.
Stir to combine. Chill until ready to use. Serve with tortilla chips, and enjoy the game.
Recipe Pro Tips!
Here are some great tips to make the best guacamole!
- Plan ahead for making guacamole; if you can only find unripe avocados, then you will want to ripen them if you need them quickly.
- One hack is to add it with a ripe banana or other fruit like an apple into a paper bag, and it will ripen faster than by itself, usually in a day, if the avocado isn’t too hard.
- Alternatively, wrap an avocado, or as many as you need, individually in foil and bake in a 200F oven for 10 minutes or longer, depending again on how ripe your avocado is. Remove from the oven and let cool in the foil.
- Want to amp up the flavor of your guacamole? Add crushed red pepper, cayenne, paprika, or even garlic powder or granulated garlic can give your guacamole a completely different profile of flavors.
- Leave the guacamole chunky if you are just eating it by itself.
- Add a spoon for serving so you are not breaking chips into the dip.
- What ingredient keeps guacamole from turning brown? The lime in this recipe keeps the guacamole a pretty green color.

Very excited to see this! Joe Montana’s son is the QB of my college’s football team right now and I’m going back for homecoming because it’s my 10 year reunion. I’ll definitely be making this to take to the game with me! (and if I run into Joe there-I’ll let him have a bite!)
