What is Monkey Bread?
Monkey Bread is a term used for breads that you can pull apart, and they are made with balls of dough. No one knows exactly where it got the name “Monkey Bread.” Perhaps it’s because you pick it apart and eat it with your fingers like a monkey? But what we do know for sure is that it’s delicious!
Traditionally, Monkey Bread is a sweet treat made with cinnamon and sugar, or like our Air Fryer Holiday Monkey Bread. This Pizza Monkey Bread is a fun and savory twist on the original recipe.

What is in Pizza Monkey Bread?
This savory monkey bread recipe only requires a few ingredients. It can also be adapted to fit your needs. Here’s what you’ll want to gather to make your own Pizza Monkey Bread.
Short on time, use refrigerated biscuits or pizza dough. Prefer cooking from scratch? You can easily use your favorite pizza dough recipe instead!
Ingredients
Refrigerated Biscuits – Choose a canned biscuit like Pillsbury Grands. Alternatively, you can use refrigerated pizza dough or even your favorite homemade pizza dough recipe.
Cheese – For the best flavor and texture, this recipe is made with three cheeses: Mozzarella, Provolone, and Parmesan. If possible, grate your own Mozzarella and Provolone because they will melt easier and give the finished appetizer those mouthwatering cheese pulls. I also grate my own Parmesan; I always have a block of that in the fridge.
Pepperoni – I like the thin-cut pepperoni, but choose whatever you like best.
Garlic – This adds loads of flavor to the monkey bread and gives it a delicious garlic butter taste.
Butter – Use salted butter for the best flavor.
Italian Seasoning – This adds the best Italian herb flavors to the monkey bread.
Marinara Sauce – Choose your favorite variety of marinara sauce to dip the monkey bread chunks in when you serve it. Yum!
Olive Oil – Use this as a dipping sauce or topping for the Pizza Monkey Bread.
Fresh Basil – Not only does this add a bit of color for serving, but it’s a fresh burst of flavor, too!
Red Pepper Flakes – These are optional, but if you love a bit of spice with your pizza, these are great to sprinkle on top.
How to Make Pizza Monkey Bread
First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a 10-inch Bundt pan with cooking spray.
Cut each round of biscuit dough into quarters. Likewise, if you are using pizza dough instead, cut the dough into two-inch chunks.
In a large bowl, combine the biscuit pieces, three cheeses, Italian seasoning, garlic, pepperoni, and melted butter. Use your hands to combine all of the ingredients until they are well mixed, and the biscuit pieces are thoroughly coated in butter, cheese, and herbs.
Scoop the biscuit mixture into the prepared Bundt pan, spreading it evenly around the pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes, then remove from oven and cover with foil. Return the foil-covered Bundt pan to the oven and cook for an additional 15 to 25 minutes, or until the dough is completely cooked (use a knife to pull some of the centerpieces apart to make sure it’s cooked all the way through).
Turn the Monkey Bread Pizza out onto a plate (as pictured above), then invert the plate onto your serving platter so that the top of the bread is right side up again. Brush with a bit of olive oil, and sprinkle on additional Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh basil, and red pepper flakes. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
It’s so much fun to pull apart the monkey bread with its deliciously cheesy center. Even better, it’s so much fun to eat those warm, buttery bites! Don’t be surprised if it disappears really quickly.
Recipe Pro Tips!
What is the difference between pizza dough and biscuit dough?
Using biscuit dough for this recipe will give you buttery bread with each bite, as biscuit dough has butter, and pizza dough uses olive oil.
Also, the leavening agents are different in the two doughs. Biscuit dough uses baking powder and baking soda, whereas pizza dough uses yeast.
Can I make Pizza Monkey Bread ahead of time?
I recommend making the dish fresh and putting it in the oven. But you can prep your pepperoni, cheese, garlic, etc., and just have it ready to build and bake.
What if I don’t have a Bundt Pan?
You can also use a 9″ springform pan or any pan like a 9×13″, but you may have to adjust your baking time accordingly.

Hubby is a huge pizza fan, and so is the whole family. Here are some of our best pizza creations. Enjoy!!
Pizza Monkey Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cans 16 oz each Refrigerated Biscuits, like Pillsbury Grand, or 2 lbs of pizza dough
- 1 cup freshly grated mozzarella
- 1 cup freshly grated provolone
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
- 6 ounces pepperoni thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 cup melted butter
For serving
- Marinara Sauce
- Fresh Basil
- Grated Parmesan
- Red Pepper Flakes
- Olive Oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 10-inch Bundt pan with cooking spray.
- Cut the biscuit dough rounds into quarters. If using pizza dough, cut it into thick 2-inch chunks.
- In a large bowl, combine the biscuit dough pieces, three cheeses, pepperoni, garlic, Italian seasoning, and melted butter. Using your hands, mix all of the ingredients together until it's well blended and the dough chunks are coated with the butter, cheese, and seasoning.
- Scoop the mixture into the prepared bundt pan, making sure it's an even layer. Bake for 20 minutes, then remove from oven and cover with tin foil to prevent the top from over browning. Return the foil-covered pan to the oven and cook for an additional 15 to 25 minutes, or until the dough is completely cooked (use a knife to pull apart the bread in the center to make sure it is not still dough in the middle.)
- Turn the pizza monkey bread out onto a plate and then invert it again onto your serving platter so that the top is right side up. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with additional grated Parmesan, red pepper flakes, and fresh basil. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
