What Ingredients are in Halloween Apples?

Ingredients for Halloween Apples.

Ingredients

Green Apples – Granny Smith apples work great for this recipe as they are tart, and the candy melts are quite sweet.

Bamboo Sticks – These are perfect for a handle for your apples. The link is above.

Bright White Candy Melts – You can use other colors, but I think the bright white really stands out. The link is above.

Red Edible Color Spray – This is perfect to make the blood splatter on the apples once dipped. The link is above.

Wilton Red Sparkle Gel – The final touch is the oozing gel on top of the apples. The link is above.

Tools Needed

4 cup Measuring Cup – This is a nice wide-mouthed vessel to dip your apples into.

Basting Brush – Perfect utensil to splatter the blood onto the apples.

Small Bowl – This is used to hold the spray to work with it for the splatters.

Parchment Paper – This keeps your area clean afterward and is easy to then discard.

How to Make Halloween Apples

Start by washing your apples well.

Pound the bamboo sticks into the ends of your apple using a hammer or meat tenderizer.

In your 4-cup measuring cup, pour in your candy melts and microwave for 30-second intervals. Stir vigorously after each interval, even if they don’t look melted yet. (Make sure it is melted and as smooth as possible.)

Dipping the apples in candy melts.

Tilt your measuring cup to the side and roll your apple in the chocolate. Gently tap the bamboo stick to knock off any excess chocolate.

Spray your red edible color spray into a small bowl.

Dip your basting brush into the red spray and fling it onto your apple. This can get messy, so lay some paper towels down.

Let the apple sit for a moment and dry.

Lastly, add drips to the top of your apple using the red gel icing. I achieved this by making a circle around the top with my gel and then creating lines down from the circle with big drops on the end.

Serve and enjoy this spooky treat! Happy Halloween!

Recipe Tips!

Can I use White Chocolate instead of Candy Melts for this recipe?

Yes, white chocolate can be substituted for the candy melts, which, at times, can be a bit difficult to work with. Some people also may prefer the taste of white chocolate to the melts.

What Kind of Apples can I use for Candy Apples?

You want to have a firmer apple to withstand being dipped. Apples like a Granny Smith work great, but you can also use a Gala or a Fuji apple too. Honey Crisps may be too large. Do keep in mind that these are much sweeter apples than the tartness you will get with a Granny Smith.

How Long Will My Candy Apple Last?

Candy apples can last a few days in the fridge, but after a while, the apple will start to brown inside because it has been poked. These types of apples are best enjoyed quickly, but honestly, who could resist this spooky treat?
