What is on Halloween Pizza?

Ingredients for a Halloween pizza.

Ingredients

Prepared pizza dough – This can be homemade or store-bought. Try our Bread Machine Pizza Dough.

Tomato sauce – You can buy inexpensive canned as you will be spicing it up. Or skip the spices and buy pizza sauce. You can also make our Homemade Pizza Sauce.

Shredded mozzarella – Try to shred your own into long pieces or buy it this way. See the above picture as a reference.

White mushrooms – These work best for creating the skulls. Add as few or as many as you want.

Ball of fresh mozzarella – This is used to make the little ghost or whatever shaped cookie cutter you may have that is spooktacular. This cheese has a higher water content and won’t melt as fast, but it does release water, so don’t use too much of it.

Italian seasoning – Salt – Garlic powder – Onion powder – These are all used to spice up the tomato sauce to make it a pizza sauce.

Fresh basil (optional) – This is optional but just adds a pop of color that tends to brighten everything up.

How To Make Halloween Pizza

Pot with pizza sauce ingredients.
Pizza dough rolled out onto a pizza stone.
Tomato sauce added to the pizza.

Preheat oven to 450° F.

In a small saucepan, combine tomato sauce, salt, Italian seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir, then heat on low for 5 minutes.

Once the sauce is made, take your dough ball and stretch it out to a 14×14-inch circle on a pizza stone.

Spoon the sauce onto the center of the pizza, leaving about 1 inch of space around the edge for the crust. (I used about ½ cup of sauce, but adjust to your liking).

Starting the cheese spider web.
Making the cheese spider web.

To create the spiderweb cheese, make a line of cheese down the center of the pizza. Repeat in the other direction (you will see four quadrants). Make a line of cheese down the center of each quadrant; you will be left with 8 quadrants.

Now, do a line of cheese going across each quadrant to create the spiderweb effect.

Close-up of the spider web and mushroom skulls.

Wash your mushroom slices, then take a paring knife, cut small lines at the bottom of each slice, and poke two holes in the center of each slice. This will make the mushroom look like a skull.

Place them on your pizza.

Bake for 10 minutes at 450° F.

Three mozzarella ghosts in a palm of a hand.
Adding the mozzarella ghosts.

While the pizza is baking, slice your mozzarella ball and cut out ghost shapes using a small ghost cutter.

After the 10 minutes are up, carefully remove the pizza from the oven then arrange your ghosts onto the pizza. Bake for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Garnish with fresh basil and black sprinkles for the ghost eyeballs and mouth. Enjoy!

What are some Halloween teen party food ideas?

The obvious one is a Halloween pizza but besides that, there are great scary dips, mummy hot dogs, ghoulish drinks, and cupcakes galore to make your party fiendishly perfect.

Recipe Pro Tips!

Notes/Suggestions

  • This pizza will keep in an airtight container for 2 days (once sliced).
  • Make sure to wash your mushrooms before you use them!
  • Putting the ghosts on for just the last two minutes of baking will help them keep their shape.
  • Cooking times may vary, so make sure your pizza is almost done before adding the ghosts so they keep their shape.

Ideas for dietary restrictions, like gluten-free dough or plant-based cheese, would make this recipe accessible to more people.

Sorry, this is not my basis of knowledge if you need to seek out that kind of diet I would recommend another site.
