These fun and easy Halloween Chocolate Spiders are a great edible craft for the haunting season. They have all the deliciousness of a Snickers chocolate bar and the salty goodness of a pretzel. A perfect pairing.

If you love Halloween treats that are easy, then try these recipes, Halloween Ice Cream, Halloween Pizza or fun Mummy Rice Krispie Treats.

What Ingredients you need to Make These Chocolate Spiders

Recipe Ingredients.

Recipe Ingredients

Fun-size candy bars, such as Snickers – These chocolate bars are perfect for this recipe as they are sturdy enough to hold the legs in place.

Melting chocolates – You can use any kind of melting chocolate here, but the wafers are the easiest to use.

Red rainbow confetti sprinkles or any small red candies – Confetti sprinkles in red work great for this project, giving the spiders red eyes.

Thin pretzels – Use large pretzel knots for this, as the legs will be long enough. The best pretzels to work with are Rold Gold Thins or a similar product, as they are large and thin enough to break easily.

How to make Chocolate Spiders

Carving holes in the side of a bar.
Four holes per sides.
Breaking the pretzel for legs.
Melting chocolate.

Using a sharp knife, carefully carve 4 small holes on each side of a candy bar. Each hole should be just large enough to fit a pretzel piece.

Break off the rounded ends of the pretzels to make the legs. You’ll need 8 pieces (4 pretzels) per spider. Set aside.

Place melting chocolates in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 50% power in 20-second intervals, stirring with a fork after each. Depending on your microwave, this will take 3-6 intervals. Stop heating when most pieces are melted and only a few small lumps remain; they’ll melt with stirring. Avoid overheating.

Dipping in pretzel legs.
Attaching legs.
Spiders upside down.
Holding a chocolate spider.

Working one leg at a time, dip the end of a pretzel piece into the melted chocolate and gently insert it into one of the carved holes. Repeat until all legs are attached. Place the candy bar upside down (legs sticking up) and let the chocolate set for 5-7 minutes.

Once the legs are secure, flip the spider right side up. Use a toothpick or a broken pretzel end to dot two small spots of melted chocolate where the eyes will go. Quickly press red sprinkles or candies onto the chocolate before it sets.

Recipe Pro Tips

Snickers and chocolate spiders.

FAQs and tips on making these Halloween spiders

Avoid candy bars with fluffy nougat (like 3 Musketeers); they’re too soft to hold the legs. Snickers or other firmer bars work best.

Use a very sharp knife with a pointy tip to make the holes for the spider’s legs.

Larger thin pretzels are ideal. Mini pretzels are too small to break into long enough legs.

If the chocolate hardens, reheat in the microwave for 10-second intervals until smooth, usually 1-2 times.
