What is Texas Hash?
Texas Hash is an easy and simple dinner that gets all pulled together in one pan. Pure comfort food made easy.
I love the flavors of chili powder with ground beef, onion, celery, peppers, tomatoes and garlic. Even more spices are added to the dish to give it some depth with dried mustard and smoked paprika.
The filler that makes this a complete meal is the rice, and it is cooked right in the same pan, brilliant, I say! The meat rice combination with the homemade tomato sauce is awesome. The whole list of ingredients is below!
How to Make Texas Hash
Simple ingredients but there are quite a few of them, but so many are a teaspoon of this or a teaspoon of that, so it goes quickly.
Have all your ingredients ready and this meal will be a flash in the pan to make.
I like to use extra-lean ground beef in a recipe like this so you don’t have to worry about the excess grease. With all these ingredients going in you know it is going to be a feast for your taste buds.
Ingredients
Olive oil
Medium onion
Celery
Green bell pepper
Garlic
Extra-lean ground beef
Kosher salt
Ground black pepper
Dry mustard
Smoked paprika
Chili powder
Dry parsley
Long grain rice, uncooked
Can diced tomatoes
Water
Worcestershire sauce
Cheddar cheese
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Make sure you have a tight-fitting lid to use for the skillet. Add in the onions, celery, peppers, and garlic. Cook for a few minutes until starting to soften.
Next, add the ground beef and continue to cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
Add in dry mustard, paprika, chili powder, parsley, and rice. Cook for a few minutes stirring.
Add canned tomatoes with the juice from the can, water, and Worcestershire sauce.
Stir to combine and cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Remove the lid and gently stir; if still too liquid, then continue to cook for a few minutes more. Add the cheese and return the lid until melted. Serve immediately.
Just have everyone scoop out a big bowl of Texas Hash to enjoy and dinner is served!! How easy was that!!
This is an easy recipe and a complete meal like a chili would be. You could serve a side salad and maybe a crusty bun with this but that is all you need.
I have seen some Texas Hash recipes that take an hour to bake in the oven but if you can make it in one pot on the stovetop not only does that save time but also dishwashing too. Plus, you don’t have to turn the oven on for that length of time either.
