If you’re a fan of bold, tangy flavors, this homemade Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe is a must-try. Rich and creamy, it’s the perfect addition to crisp salads, buffalo wings, burgers, wraps, and fresh vegetables. Made with simple ingredients, this easy dressing comes together in minutes and tastes far better than anything you’ll find in a bottle.

Using homemade salad dressings is a game-changer in terms of health and flavor. We have several for you to try and make this summer: Poppy Seed Dressing, Yogurt Dill Dressing, and Avocado Ranch Dressing are a few!

What Is Blue Cheese Dressing?

Blue Cheese Dressing is a creamy dressing made with blue cheese, yogurt (or mayonnaise, sour cream), milk (or buttermilk), and seasonings. Known for its bold flavor and signature chunks of cheese, it’s a popular accompaniment to salads, chicken wings, steak, and fresh vegetables.

Why I Love This Recipe

  • Big blue cheese lover
  • Love this on salads, wings and as a dip
  • Easy to make
  • Way better than store-bought dressing
  • You can use your favorite blue cheese

This Creamy Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe is a must to have in any blue cheese lover’s rotation. It works so well with many dishes. Our dressing is a healthier version using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream and mayonnaise.

Recipe Ingredients

Extra virgin olive oil – It’s always my go-to choice for salad dressing. Packed with great flavor and healthy fats.

Greek yogurt – It helps this dressing to stay creamy and hold up the rest of the ingredients. You can also use mayonnaise or sour cream or a combination of both.

Fresh lemon juice – It provides a sour hit that balances out the blue cheese’s sharpness.

Dijon mustard – I always include it in my dressings as it provides a good contrast to fats and adds flavor. Use a good quality one.

Garlic – I like raw garlic’s sharpness as it makes vegetables stand out.

Blue cheese – The star of the dressing, I added some to the dressing itself and extra over the salad for maximum flavor.

Water or milk – Add just enough to get the consistency you desire. You can also use buttermilk for this recipe also.

Salt and black pepper – Adjust to taste. This dressing has salt coming from the blue cheese, so try to adjust as you go.

What Kind of Blue Cheese Should I Use

Any type of blue cheese works here, as the differences in flavor are subtle once it’s mixed into the dressing. My favorites are Stilton, Roquefort or Gorgonzola.

Ways to Use Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

– Over salads! Blue cheese dressing is popular over pear and arugula salads, as a replacement for Caesar dressing to give that traditional salad a flavor twist or with an apple and walnut salad.

– As a dip for chicken wings. Either fried or baked, serving the wings next to this dressing can never go wrong. Make it more spoonable than drizzable for this purpose.

– As a creamy dip to serve with crackers or veggie sticks.

Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing FAQs

Can I make it without Greek yogurt?

Yes. You can swap Greek yogurt with sour cream or natural yogurt. The flavor won’t vary much, but the dressing won’t be as thick. You may omit extra water or milk in this case. You can also use a mayonnaise-sour cream blend.

Is this the same as store-bought blue cheese dressing?
Not really, homemade is fresher, less sweet, and you control the amount of cheese. Most people prefer it once they try it, and it is much healthier, too.

How long can I store this dressing in the fridge?

Store this dressing for up to five days in the fridge. Give it a stir before using since it may thicken as it sits.
