Birthday parties can cause a lot of parental stress but kids love birthday parties. If you’re looking for a fun party I have some great Girls Birthday Party Ideas. I’ve got some that girls of all ages will love.
We have already brought you Boys Birthday Party Ideas to make their day even better, so let’s now do the same for girls. Don’t you remember your own birthday parties and how excited you were to have your friends, the decorations, the cake, the gifts, and more?
Of course, a first birthday party is going to be very different from a party for an 8 or 9-year-old, and tween parties are very different from teen parties. No matter the age, the first thing you need to do is decide on a theme. Once you have a theme for the party, everything else will fall into place.

What Are Some Good Birthday Party Themes?
Themes I’ve seen that have worked well for girls’ birthday parties are ones with a broad range of appeal. A wild animal-themed party is always a big hit with the preschool and early elementary school-aged set. You can either have a party somewhere with animals or hire a company to bring the animals to your house.
Art is a party theme that can transcend age groups – whether it’s painting on canvases, making clay sculptures, or painting a mug or other sort of dishware; it’s a fun (if a little messy) time for everyone. Art can be further broken down into different themes, too, like a unicorn party, Disney party, Garden Party, etc.
A theme can be as simple as “pink”; have everything coordinated into your favorite color and get creative from there. These color themes would work for any age too.
Slumber parties work well for the tween and teen set – as long as the parents are aware that very little slumber happens at these parties! A home spa party can be a lot of fun as well – with face masks and nail painting for all of the guests you won’t need party favors!
A tea party can be a great theme – and it incorporates the food as well. You don’t need to serve real tea if you’re worried about the caffeine – iced tea or caffeine-free fruit / herbal tea will be just as popular.
Of course, there’s always the princess theme – with some fun activities like dressing up as their favorite princesses or even hiring a princess look-alike to make an appearance!
If it is going to be an outdoor party, think of a cute insect to be the theme like a butterfly, ladybug, or caterpillar. These can be the cutest of parties, and decorations can be handmade or purchased.
Birthdays in the winter months can come with winter themes too, like snowmen, ice skating, etc. Make a fun snowman pinata to go with the theme.
Party Decorations
Once you have your kids birthday theme, you need to think about party decorations. One of the best places to find unique party supplies is the thrift store! You can get gorgeous (mismatched) teacups for a dollar or two apiece and each girl can take one home as their party favor!
Decorations make a party but you can keep it inexpensive with simple items like balloons, streamers, paper straws, homemade table decorations, and items from around your home. You may be surprised at what you have at home already that will work great for the particular theme you selected.
You can often find princess costumes or accessories in the toy section of the thrift store as well. For a home spa party, you’ll need to buy face masks for everyone or the ingredients to make your own but you can save some money by having the guests bring their favorite nail polishes to share.
One of the biggest money savers is planning ahead. Make lists, borrow items as needed. Ask for help. Shop around while you are out. Make the best birthday party with the least amount of stress and dollars.

Birthday Party Food
You’re going to need to get food for the party – and if it can match the themes, even better. For a home spa party, you can have water with cucumber or lemon slices and fancy sandwiches.
A tea party requires little more than tea, small sandwiches, and pastries. How about Walking Tacos for an easy meal that kids would love. Cupcakes are always a hit and can easily be made at home.
For a slumber party, you’ll need dinner, snacks, and breakfast and maybe milk and cookies before bed. Get the birthday girl involved in choosing the menu. Of course, what’s a party without a cake and ice cream?
Want to make something kids will go crazy for? Try making a candy buffet. You can provide candy bags for a take-home gift also.
Activities will depend on the theme of the party and on whether you’ve brought in special guests. If you’re hosting an animal-themed party and have brought in someone with exotic animals, you probably won’t need to plan any other activities.
If you’re doing a spa-themed party, you’ll want to pick an activity that can be done while nails are drying. Tried and true games such as pass the parcel, pin the tail on the animal, and musical chairs are always good activities that don’t require a lot of preparation time or expensive materials.
Sometimes goodie bags aren’t the things to do. For whatever reason, if you don’t want to do goodie bags here are a bunch of alternatives for you. Plus we have super Funfetti Hot Chocolate Bombs that would make an excellent party favor.
What Can I Do Instead of a Birthday Party?
If a traditional birthday party holds little appeal for your kid or you, there are plenty of other options, especially for older kids. You could take the birthday girl and a few friends out to a nice restaurant for a meal.
You could take a small group to a movie, the zoo, or even supervise them at the mall for a few hours. I have done this with a birthday party taking the girls shopping and giving each a small gift card to buy what they like then to the food court for treats.
No mess at your house and no clean up involved. You can easily stick to a budget doing a party like this as there are no other expenses.
Also, a fun idea is to hire a company to do a photo booth. They bring the props and the kids have fun dressing up and doing goofy pictures together. This can while away the time at a party in a very fun way. This is a fun idea for your tween/teen parties.
You could do this on your own too for an inexpensive party idea. You round up the props or have your guests bring some that can be shared with everyone. Cell phones can be used to take the pictures, the party is on with no budget at all.
Older kids – tweens and teens are more than old enough to be involved in planning their own party or alternate activity. Figure out a reasonable budget beforehand and ask them to help research options.
Whether you do a non-traditional party or go with a classic theme party such as princesses, with these great birthday party ideas you’re sure to make memories that will last a lifetime.

My daughter had her 8th birthday party at Claire’s. It was so fun! They got their hair and nails done. They did a scavenger hunt around the store and as their party favor each girl got to spend $10 on anything they wanted. They were thrilled. The employees took the lead and did a wonderful job. Justice also has birthday parties that let the girls put on a fashion show.
