What Are in Funfetti Hot Chocolate Bombs?
- What ingredients are needed for this recipe? You will probably have to do a bit of investigating to find molds and maybe sprinkles that you like, but strawberry chocolate milk is at the grocery store, and so are chocolate chips and marshmallows.
Semi sweet chocolate chips
White vanilla melting wafers
Multi colored sprinkles
Strawberry chocolate milk
Mini marshmallows
Half sphere silicone mold
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips – Milk chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips will also work. I just find that semi-sweet chocolate chips make for a perfectly sweet hot cocoa.
- White vanilla melting wafers – I use Ghirardelli’s brand as I find that they are less candy-like and have a better finish than the Wilton brand; however, Wilton or another candy melt will work as well. I find these at my local craft store or online.
- Strawberry chocolate milk – Nesquik is the only brand with strawberry flavored milk mix I have found. It makes this drink sweet and a little fruity. Easy to find at your local grocery store too.
- Sprinkles – Multi colored sprinkles are the funfetti in this cocoa bomb. However, if you cannot have sprinkles or prefer a different kind, simply leave them out with no effect or swap them for your favorite kind.
- Mini marshmallows – Because every hot cocoa deserves marshmallows.
- 2 small, microwave-safe bowls
- Half sphere silicone mold
How To Make Hot Chocolate Bombs
Assemble all your ingredients and have them at the ready, as you see above. If you have chocolate in the form of a chocolate bar, you will want to chop the chocolate ahead of time.
- In a small, microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips in 30-second increments, stirring every time, until melted.
- This should take about 60-90 seconds. Once melted, spoon about 2 ½ Tbsp of melted chocolate into each half-sphere mold and spread around evenly to coat the sides. There is no need for tempering chocolate in this recipe.
- Be sure you coat the top edges well, as they will be fragile. Let set in the fridge or freezer until hardened, about 10 minutes. Once set, gently remove the chocolate half-sphere from each mold. Try not to handle these too much as they will start to melt, and fingerprints will become visible. At this point, you should have 12 half spheres.
Filling the Molds
In a small bowl, melt the white vanilla melting wafers in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted. This should take about 30-60 seconds.
Once melted, spoon into a baggie or a piping bag. Prep 6 half spheres by laying them face down on a plate allowing a little space between each one. Snip a small corner of the baggie and drizzle melted wafers over the half-spheres, one at a time.
Sprinkle colored sprinkles over the top of the white drizzle. Do not drizzle all of them before putting sprinkles on, as the melting wafers will have hardened, and the sprinkles will not stick. Do them one at a time for best results. Let set until hardened.
In the other, plain half-spheres, spoon 1 Tbsp of strawberry milk. Top with several mini marshmallows and sprinkles.
Sealing The Spheres Together
Warm a small, flat, microwave safe plate in the microwave for 45 seconds. Place an empty, decorated half sphere onto the plate for a few seconds so that the edge melts and creates a sort of glue. Place directly on top of the corresponding, filled half sphere and match the edges.
Continue with the other five spheres until all are completed, and the cocoa bombs are assembled. Let set and enjoy!
Strawberry Hot Chocolate Bombs
Adding a strawberry flavor to these hot chocolate bombs is fun and easy using the strawberry hot chocolate you can find in the grocery store. It is easy and brings these bombs into spring and summer too!!
How To Serve Funfetti Hot Chocolate Bombs?
To make hot cocoa, simply place a cocoa bomb in the bottom of a mug and pour 6 oz of hot milk or water over top of it.
The semi sweet chocolate shell melts into hot milk (don’t use just hot water) and releases the strawberry milk, sprinkles, and marshmallows inside, and emulsifies to create a smooth, warm and perfectly sweet drink.
For added pizzazz, top with extra marshmallows and sprinkles, and enjoy!
How To Store How Chocolate Bombs
To store hot chocolate bombs is very easy. They may be stored in an airtight container or baggie on the counter for up to 2 weeks.
To Use As Party Favors
These fun hot cocoa bombs are perfect for a party favor for a skating party, boy or girl’s birthday party, or any celebration. Place them in cupcake liners and then into cello bags with a pretty ribbon for everyone to enjoy later!
The sprinkles can be changed to suit the theme of the party. Think red, white, and blue for the 4th of July, red and white for Canada Day. Your son’s or daughter’s favorite color for their birthday or just a fun variety like we have for you today.
The sprinkles, although pretty, also melt into the drink, so no worrying about kids having issues drinking them. This is the perfect drink for both a super chilly winter evening or a summer afternoon, as the chocolate strawberry is fitting for both occasions.
