I saw this DIY Bird Feeder on The Chew . Daphne Oz was making them and they looked so easy and fun. Amber and Brian made them when he was visiting. It was a great ice breaker to get everyone talking, laughing and interacting. They are easy for kids to make and the birds and squirrels loved them.
All you need is:
Toilet Paper Rolls
Wax Paper
Smooth Peanut Butter, we used crunchy and it is more difficult to spread
Bird Seed
Ribbon
Take a strip of wax paper and lay it on the counter. Spread out bird seed. Place two fingers inside the toilet paper roll. With a knife spread peanut butter all over the roll. Take the toilet paper roll and roll it in the bird seed, covering all sides. String a piece of ribbon through the roll and tie it in a bow. Make as many as desired and hang them in your trees.
Smaller kids will have fun with this too and everyone can watch the birds come and feast!!
Our bird feeder was almost empty but now they have these to enjoy!!
They are great to hang all over the yard. Our wild life here don’t have that much to eat as the hail storms that come in eary August wiped out everything. You can see my garden is pretty much dirt and the trees are almost bare. The birds were thrilled to have the DIY Bird Feeders to have a little munch on. Try making some on your own, they are fun, easy and the kids will love them as much as the birds do.
