Best known for its commercial name, Irish Baileys Cream Recipe is a luxurious and tempting drink to have after dinner. It has a creamy consistency, and flavor-wise, you have chocolate and coffee notes, which somehow is like having a boozy cappuccino.

The best way to enjoy it is on the rocks, but it’s also nice to mix it with a shot of espresso during winter months.

Looking for inspiration to make other delicious drinks at home? Why don’t you have our Pumpkin Pie Martini or our Frozen Mudslide Cocktail?

Why I Love This Recipe

  • Tastes great
  • Easy to make
  • Lovely gift/hostess idea
  • Perfect with coffee
  • Nice after-dinner drink (tastes like dessert)

What Does Irish Cream Taste Like?

Irish cream is a rich and creamy liqueur made from Irish whiskey, cream, and sweeteners. It has hints of vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. It has a smooth texture and a sweet, slightly boozy taste. The most famous brand is Baileys Irish Cream.

Recipe Ingredients

Light cream – We used a 20% fat cream, but you can also go with heavy cream; this recipe works well with both. Ones add extra fat and texture to your drink, so it’s up to your taste and what you have on hand as well.

Sweetened condensed milk – Adds sweetness and creaminess to the recipe, so don’t skip it!

Irish whiskey – The most common brand is Jameson Irish whiskey, but any Irish whiskey (or any whiskey, actually) would work. You want to use whiskey here, not bourbon.

Chocolate syrup – Adds chocolate flavor and sweetness at the same time.

Instant coffee granules – We used granulated instant coffee, but any instant coffee would work. You could also replace it with one shot of espresso.

Vanilla extract – Use pure vanilla extract whenever possible.

How to make homemade Irish cream

Adding all the ingredients to a blender.

The best part about making this Irish cream recipe is that it’s so easy. You’ll only need a couple of easy-to-find ingredients and a blender.

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend on low speed for 30 seconds until smooth.

Pour into a clean glass bottle or jar and refrigerate.

Let it sit for a few hours for the flavors to meld (if you can wait!). Shake well before serving.

Recipe Pro Tips!

How to store your homemade Baileys recipe

Store it in an airtight glass bottle in the fridge. It lasts up to two months. Always shake before using, as it may naturally separate.

How to serve homemade Irish Cream

  • Neat or on the rocks (straight or with ice)
  • With coffee, similar to an Irish Coffee but creamier.
  • In cocktails, like a Mudslide or B-52 shot.
  • In desserts, such as cheesecakes, ice cream, or whipped creams.
