What is in Pumpkin Dinner Rolls?
Simple ingredients that you may already have on hand. I liked these rolls because they didn’t have too much of the usual pumpkin pie spice but just a hint of nutmeg.
They are perfect for a savory side dish to accompany turkey, ham, or even roast beef. If you usually skip the bread for the holidays you won’t want to miss out on these. Grab an extra one!

Large egg

How To Make Pumpkin Dinner Rolls?
- Warm the milk in the microwave to 100 degrees F. Add the sugar and the yeast. Let sit for 5-7 minutes to allow the yeast to activate.
- Whisk together the salt, nutmeg, and flour in a small bowl.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add the melted butter, pumpkin puree, egg, kosher salt, nutmeg and flour.
- Using the paddle attachment mix, on low speed until the ingredients are well combined and the dough has come together.
- Change the attachment to the dough hook and knee on medium-low for 15 minutes. If the dough is very wet, you can add a little more flour; if the dough is dry, add a little more milk. The dough should be very sticky.
Place the dough in a large bowl that is a well-greased bowl and cover it with a tea towel and leave it in a warm spot. Allow the dough to rise until it doubles in size for 1 ½ to 2 hours.
Rising and Baking
Scoop the dough out on to parchment paper that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
Divide the dough into 16-20 pieces depending upon the size of the rolls you like.
With greased hands, shape the pieces into balls by first pinching the edges into the center, then rolling the ball on the parchment paper to create surface tension.
Place the rolls into a well-greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Cover with a towel and allow to rise again for 1 ½ – 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
To prepare the egg wash, whisk the egg and water together in a small bowl and brush the tops of all the rolls using a pastry brush.
Once the buns have risen bake for 25 – 30 minutes or until golden brown.
You can use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature. It should read 200F when inserted into the middle of a bun.

- Allow to cool in the pan for 10 – 15 minutes.
- Remove the buns and place onto a cooling rack to cool further.
- Serve the rolls warm or at room temperature with butter and honey.
Perfect for Leftovers
These little rolls would be scrumptious to make turkey sliders with, a great way to enjoy the leftovers the next day while watching a game or relaxing with the family.
You may not have leftover buns from the day before so make a double batch! Or leave this treat for your leftovers! Either way, they will be all gobbled down!!
Can you Freeze Pumpkin Dinner Rolls?
Freezing dinner rolls ticks one item off your to-do list when preparing a big meal. They are a great way to make something ahead of time. Let them cool completely outside of the baking pan always.
Then wrap them well in plastic wrap and foil or freeze in zipped bags. Don’t overcrowd though or squish them.
How To Reheat Dinner Rolls
Remove the rolls the night before to thaw or you can reheat from frozen.
Make sure to remove the plastic wrap from the rolls and wrap just in foil to reheat in a 325F oven. From frozen they will take longer, like 25-30 minutes, if thawed, about 10-15 minutes.
You can use your thermometer again to test the middle of the rolls to make sure they are reheated. Heating to 140F to 150F should be fine. You don’t need to have the buns scorching hot.
